January 22, 2026 - Fly to Hammonton, NJ for Lunch |
||||||
|
On a cold winter day in January, a bunch of us decided to fly to Hammonton Airport in New Jersey for lunch at the Apron Cafe. Actually, it wasn't that cold, maybe low 40s. As you can see, the Chesapeake Bay is ice free. We enjoyed a nice tailwind heading east, but the air was a little bumpy at 2,500 feet. In this picture, you can see a big fire of some sort at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. |

We had a pretty good cross-wind coming in. I found the Decathlon easier to land in the crosswind than the RV-7. I think it's because the Decathlon is just heavier and has more drag.
The Apron Cafe wasn't too crowded on this Thursday.

Back at Essex Skypark. The skies had smoothed out on the return flight and the crosswind wasn't as bad.
